Who am I?
Writer. Illustrator. Player-Outsider.
Hello! I am Samantha Farr and I live in rural southeast Idaho. My day job is with the Forest Service, so I get to spend a lot of time in the mountains and forests of Idaho and western Wyoming. At home, I love to play with my dogs, chickens, and whatever other critters I find… including my precious and wild nieces and nephews.
I have loved reading and writing since I was a wee child and have recently taken on the goal of writing more and learning to illustrate. As a member of SCBWI and the 12x12 Challenge, I’m excited with the progress I’m making and look forward to getting my books to you someday.
You’ll find my stickers on Instagram and Etsy.

What were your favorite childhood books?
Ever since I was a kiddo, I could be found hanging out with the dogs. Out with my dad’s hound dogs, arm slung over the sheep dog, and even now I’m the one befriending dogs at parties and my rat terriers’ favorite human.
I’m also a big fan of Idaho wildlife—Moose, bears, deer, eagles, the list goes on.
Barnyard buddies are also a big win. Guinea hens are incredible (noisy) characters, I dream of having a mini donkey, and 4-H pigs were a must as a teen.
What’s your favorite animal?
What was the first book you created?
This isn’t the first one, I’ve since come across earlier ones in my childhood school boxes, but the first one I remember was THE THREE AMIGOS. No Martin Short or Steve Martin here, and really no reason for the Spanish influence. This was a story about a litter of three puppies. I typed it on our family desktop computer in the Ravie font and saved it on a yellow floppy disk, never to be seen again.
What are your top TEN picture book recommendations?
Fair warning, this is subject to change based on whatever I’ve read recently or remembered recently that wiggles its way into my fancy:
